Making Life More Colorful One Word at a Time

To say I like things in a certain order or fashion is an understatement. Since returning to college I’ve had to learn how to take notes, create systems where I can recall information quickly, and somehow find enjoyment in doing so. When I was in high school no one talked about or taught the fundamentals of good note taking. We were simply left to our own devices to do what felt “right” and never discuss if what we were doing was efficient.

Fast forward to 2011 when I decided to give college another try and build upon my previous Associates in Arts degree. I reverted to the only system I knew…color coding. I began to wonder, what does this mean? Do I tend towards colors because it’s simply a more fun way of doing something otherwise kind of boring? Was there a deeper meaning to my secret love of assigning colors to tasks or subjects? To dig deeper I consulted a trusted “go-to” source from my childhood.

According to an accurate and scientific online quiz titled, “What Color Pen Should You Be?” by Seventeen Magazine, I should use a purple pen.
“You’re creative, someone who can make something out of nothing. Your artsy side gives you that extra edge that makes you undeniable. You’re fun, but know how to get work done. You never cease to make people laugh and your company is always enjoyed.”

I may as well have opened a fortune cookie to get these same generic results that this quiz provided. Taking matters into my own hands, I forced 2 other people into taking this same quiz to ask the question, “Can our personalities be simplified into a color of the rainbow?” The answer was, No.

Another seemingly expert website on the matter was colorcode.com which poses such mystical questions as, “Who are you? Do you really understand why you think and behave as you do?” It goes on to explain why, “The Color Code is the most revolutionary and ACCURATE measurement of your personality available on the market today. Once you have learned the Color Code you will never see yourself or others the same again! The Color Code is your best bet for understanding how to make sense out of life’s relationship puzzles.”

How could one resist NOT knowing who you were simply with a free online quiz? For now, I think I’ll skip unlocking my core personality and take pleasure in my comfortable routine without over complicating matters. I simply like colors!

  1. Hello there Molly! Haha – good stuff! However, I would be inclined to say that the (small)description they gave of you is fairly accurate! Does it answer the questions that they claim? Um.. no.. not by a long shot. There is much more to be learned of ones self from more reliable sources, obviously…

    p.s. – You are a good writer!

  2. Why thank you, blog follower. I surely “liked” the description of me as a purple pen but disappointed because my favorite color is actually yellow.
